Young, unemployed women and members of communities attended an early childhood development (ECD) prepatory workshop on the eve of Women’s Day, 8 August, at the Mangaung Resource Centre in Bloemfontein.
The information session was held to prepare the first cohort of students who will start an ECD practitioners’ course which is organised by Omoole Academy.
Tshenolo Moyekane, CEO and principal of the academy, said the course will equip students with knowledge and skills to support a holistic development of young children.
“Attendees were also taken through a financial literacy session to help them run their ECD’s better,” Moleyane said.
Mampe Mahlatsi, an assessor and moderator and an ECD owner, emphasised the course’s focus on structured, play-based learning practices which include story-telling in multiple languages to accommodate diverse learners.
The academy is in discussions with the Free State department of education to ensure that all processes and preparations are in order to roll out the new ECD programme, Moleyane said. “And we are in the process of accreditation with the QCTO, the quality council of trades and occupations,” he added.
