The Mpumalanga department of education will host the prestigious provincial installment of the 2026 National Teaching Awards on Friday, 28 August 2026 at the Nkangala District Municipality Banquet Hall in Middelburg, Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.
The awards ceremony, starting at 10H00, is held under the theme: “Celebrating Excellence, Dedication and the Heroes Shaping Our Future – Teaching is the profession that creates all professions.”
The National Teaching Awards are the highest form of recognition for teachers in South Africa. They seek to acknowledge and celebrate dedicated, innovative and committed teachers who go beyond the call of duty to ensure quality learning and teaching in our classrooms.
This year’s provincial leg will honour teachers across 15 categories, including:
– Excellence in Primary School Teaching
– Excellence in Secondary School Teaching
– Excellence in Grade R Teaching
– Excellence in Inclusive and Special Needs Teaching
– Excellence in Teaching Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology
– Excellence in ICT-Enhanced Teaching
– Excellence in School Leadership and Management
– Lifetime Achievement Award
The minister of education in the province, Lindi Masina, will deliver the keynote address and officially announce the provincial winners who will represent Mpumalanga at the National Teaching Awards ceremony to be held in Pretoria later this year.
In addition, the department will also use the occasion to honour schools that excelled at the 2026 ABC Motsepe SASCE National Championships and the 2026 Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup, highlighting the Department’s commitment to extracurricular programmes as a cornerstone for holistic learner development.
