Art Is A Calling: The Journey of Keamogetswe “Black Sauce” Sakara

Born and raised in Matlametlong Village under Moses Kotane Municipality, Keamogetswe “Black Sauce” Sakara is a dynamic community arts leader and performing artist from the North West Province. He completed his schooling at Sunrise View Secondary School in Sunrise Park, within the Rustenburg Local Municipality. Currently residing in Reagile location, Koster, he serves as the Chairperson and Drama Tutor at Reagile Community Arts Centre.

An all-rounder artist with a passion for drama, music, and dance, Sakara has built a reputation as a versatile performer and mentor. Beyond the stage, he is an established Master of Ceremonies (MC), steadily growing his brand under the name Black Sauce—a name that has become synonymous with energy, creativity, and authenticity in community arts circles.

The Beginning: Finding Purpose Through  Art

Keamogetswe’s artistic journey began in primary school, where his teachers quickly recognized his confidence and expressive nature. Encouraged to participate in poetry and drama, he discovered a natural ability to connect with audiences. His early performances earned him recognition in school competitions, igniting a lifelong passion for the arts.

At secondary school, his artistic world expanded when he was introduced to opera music. Performing his first solo as a tenor soloist marked a defining moment—one that deepened his love for performance and discipline. Art became more than a hobby; it became a refuge. It kept him away from the temptations of drugs and gangsterism, offering instead a world where he could freely express his emotions and find purpose.

Reality After School:

Choosing the Road Less Traveled After completing school, Keamogetswe faced a crossroads. Many of his peers pursued higher education, while he felt compelled to find work to support his struggling parents. Yet, destiny had other plans. Immersing himself fully in the world of art, he discovered that rehearsals and performances could be more than passion—they could be a profession. This decision marked the beginning of a challenging yet fulfilling journey. The stage became his workplace, and every performance an opportunity to grow, inspire, and redefine what success meant to him.

Building a Legacy: Reagile Community Arts Centre

Driven by a vision to empower others, Keamogetswe became one of the founding members of Reagile Community Arts Centre, a registered non-profit organization affiliated with the North West Federation of Community Arts Centres (NWFCAC).

As Chairperson and Drama Tutor, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s mission—to develop young learners, nurture their artistic talents from an early age, and assist schools with the practical components of Creative Arts. Under his leadership, the centre has become a beacon of hope and creativity, inspiring youth to see art not just as entertainment, but as a viable career path and tool for social change.

The Sacrifice: Leaving Home to Follow a Dream

In pursuit of his artistic calling, Keamogetswe made the bold decision to leave Sunrise Park and relocate permanently to Koster. This move allowed him to dedicate himself fully to the mission of Reagile Community Arts Centre and to refine his craft as a performer and educator. However, the journey was far from easy. In 2022, during a particularly difficult period when gigs were scarce and income was uncertain, his parents urged him to return home and seek employment in the mines. Instead of giving up, he transformed their concern into motivation. He worked tirelessly, knocking on doors, learning new skills, and seizing every opportunity to perform. His resilience became the foundation of his success. The Triumph: Black Sauce Becomes a Name

Persistence and passion eventually bore fruit. The name Black Sauce began to resonate across stages and communities. Audiences embraced his performances, event organizers sought his presence, and fellow artists admired his dedication. What started as a dream in a small village evolved into a respected brand—one that represents authenticity, perseverance, and artistic excellence.

Looking Forward: The Next Chapter

Eight years after finishing school, Keamogetswe stands at a new threshold. His next goal is to pursue a Performing Arts qualification at Tshwane University of Technology, a step that will not only enhance his skills but also inspire his students and make his family proud. He believes that every person is born with a divine purpose, and his is to heal, uplift, and connect people through art. For him, art is not merely a career—it is a calling, a spiritual journey, and a lifelong commitment to impact lives.
