The Power of Discipline – The Quest for Personal Discovery

The word “discipline” often sounds strict and harsh, but its absence can lead to even harsher circumstances. Without discipline, excuses become a crutch, sounding sweet to the one making them. My motto is simple: Do your best, and God will do the rest. It means do what’s within your capacity, and the impossible rests with a higher power.

During drama rehearsals, students who mastered their lines and rehearsed like they were performing for an audience always outshone those who winged it. The same applies to academics – if you don’t take classwork seriously, exams become stressful and results suffer. A colleague once said students who crammed at the last minute weren’t disciplined in managing their time.

Discipline is about starting with the end in mind. Practice makes perfect – it’s not rhetoric, it’s reality. You don’t get what you want, you get who you are. Only those who discipline themselves in tough times reap the rewards. Start small: keep time, ask questions, and don’t let circumstances dictate your day.

As they say in karate, “If you sweat in peace, you don’t bleed in war.” Push yourself now, and you’ll perform when it counts. Discipline is your friend on the road to success.
