The Western Cape department of education(WCED) has opened another window for grades R,1 and 8 applications until next month.
David Maynier, the minister of education in the Western Cape ssid the on-time applications window for grades R, 1 and 8 closed at midnight on 14 April 2026, and the parents of 166 144 learners applied on time for a place in a school next year.
He thanked parents for taking responsibility and applying on time,
Parents who did not apply by the on-time application deadline will still be able to submit late applications online until 17 May 2026. Late applications will only be considered by schools after the applications received during the on-time window have been considered.
Next steps for on-time applications
Schools will now apply their admissions policies to all the applications they received during the on-time window.
The outcomes of these applications will become available online from 28 May 2026 onwards, and parents must confirm their choice of place by 15 June 2026.
Parents who receive multiple offers of acceptance but do not select one of those offers by 15 June 2026 will be automatically confirmed to their top-ranked choice.
Parents who wish to transfer their child to a different school for grades 2 – 7 or 9 – 12 next year due to relocation will have the opportunity to submit a transfer request between 3 August 2026 and 17 August 2026.
“We will remind parents of all the relevant dates closer to the time,” Maynier promised.
He urged all parents who have applied to let the department know if their contact details change, so that the latter have the correct details when the outcomes of applications are made available.
