Amanda Tobo on The Stage of the Arts

Arts and Your Future: Why Your Creativity Matters

In my previous article I shared that arts is more than just entertainment. It is powerful. It heals. It teaches. And it brings people together.

Now, today, I want to speak directly to you.

Yes, you the learner who loves to draw thereat the back of the classroom.
You who writes poems but keeps them in your diary.
You who enjoys acting, dancing, singing, or designing but sometimes feels shy about it.

Your creativity matters.

Many learners think arts is not as important as other subjects. Some people may even say, “What will you do with drama?” or “How will music help you in life?” But the truth is this: arts builds skills that every successful person needs.

When you act in a play, you build confidence.
When you perform a speech, you improve communication.
When you paint or design, you develop creativity and problem-solving skills.
When you work in a group performance, you learn teamwork and leadership.

These are not small skills. These are life skills.

Arts also teaches courage. It takes bravery to stand on a stage. It takes confidence to share your writing. It takes strength to express your emotions through music or movement. Every time you create something, you are growing.

And let me tell you something important: your story is powerful.

You come from a community with history, culture, and dreams. Through arts, you can tell your story. You can speak about challenges young people face, such as bullying, peer pressure, identity, mental health, and family struggles in a way that others understand. You can inspire someone who feels alone.

Some of you will become teachers, filmmakers, designers, writers, presenters, or entrepreneurs. Others may choose completely different careers like being doctors, lawyers, engineers, or scientists, but the confidence and creativity you gained from arts will still help you succeed.

Do not underestimate your gift.

Start where you are. Join the drama club. Enter the poetry competition. Volunteer for the school performance. Create content that inspires others. Support your friends’ talents too.

The world needs thinkers.
The world needs leaders.
But the world also needs creators.

And you could be one of them.

Never hide your talent. Grow it. Protect it. Use it. Because your talent is not just something you perform, it is your voice, your strength, and your future.
